Cherry Beaded Holden
Another Portland Yarn Crawl treasure... a skein of Madeline Tosh Merino Light in Cherry from Happy Knits (I LOVED that store)... such gorgeous yarn! I had my mom pick something out that she would like a shawl out of, and this is what she came up with (Yes, Please!)
This was my second
Holden
… I took out the extra 2 stitches in the center row of the chart, which makes it much easier to knit the lace sections (
see larisa’s Holden
on Ravelry). I also decided to make it a tad wider, by working the stockinette section until I had (215) stitches (instead of the 189 suggested), and then starting the lace portion (which gave me 8 repeats of the lace on each side of the center stitch to start). My stitch count was divided this way:
3 edge sts + 8 x 13 + 1 center st + 8 x 13 + 3 edge sts
With one skein of madeline tosh merino light, this made the shawl large enough to wear across your shoulders (tying, or pinning with a shawl pin) where my first Holden was really more of a scarf.
I also added in some size 6 cherry glass seed beads in between the yarn over’s… with a size 12 (1.00 mm) crochet hook.
Once again, I used this

I did end up running out of beads for in between the yarn over’s, so the project was on hold for a week or so. The shawl takes 40 beads... just for the first repeat.. and each successive repeat adds at least two new sections (at 5 beads a piece), so I severely underestimated!
Here are the finished pictures, after blocking and gifting!
